Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How many hospitals are in your system

Florida Hospital is part of Adventist Health System or AHS (owned and operated by the Seventh Day Adventist Church). We are comprised of eight campuses in the greater Orlando area. This includes hospitals in Orange, Osceola, and Seminole counties. In addition to the eight Orlando-area campuses, there are ten other Florida Hospitals located around the state that are also under the AHS umbrella.

  2. How many beds are in Florida Hospital

Among our eight campuses, there are over 2,188 beds, with hospitals ranging in size from 50 to 1100+ beds.

  3. How many physicians are on staff at Florida Hospital

There are over 2100 physicians on staff at Florida Hospital. The eight hospitals operate under one license. Therefore, once a physician becomes a member of the Florida Hospital staff, he/she has privileges at all eight campuses, although each physician will be asked to designate a primary campus.

  4. What is the practice model used at Florida Hospital

The physician opportunity that is presented is typically based on one or two different models – private or employed. Our medical staff consists of physicians in both models. Employment is normally through Florida Physicians Medical Group (FPMG). This is a large, multi-specialty physician group that is a sister organization to Florida Hospital.

  5. What opportunities are there and how are they determined

Current practice opportunities can be found on our main homepage. They are determined through campus strategic planning in addition to a close analysis of community supply and community need.

  6. How does the interview process work

After we receive your CV, one of our recruiters will review your experience and interest and will speak to you in more detail about the opportunity. If both parties feel that the opportunity and the candidate should be explored in greater depth, we will set up a phone interview with one or more hospital leaders. If there is still interest on both sides, the next step would be to plan for a physician tour/visit to meet with the appropriate administrators, directors, and physicians.

  7. How long does it take to get a Florida medical license and how do I obtain one

Typically, the process for a Florida medical license can take anywhere between three and six months. With a license facilitator assisting with the preparation of the application, the approval process is usually shortened to around three months. We can recommend several facilitators to help in this process. You can also visit http://www.doh.state.fl.us/ or call (850) 245-4131 for more information.

  8. What is the process for receiving privileges at Florida Hospital

After you receive a Florida license, you can apply for medical staff privileges (credentialing). This starts with a brief checklist that is reviewed with a medical staff credentialing specialist and then an application will be mailed to you. Once the application is complete, it must be mailed back within 90 days. The Credentials Committee will then go through the approval process and privileges can be obtained within six to eight weeks.

  9. How long does it take to get on managed care contracts

The process for managed care will generally take 60-90 days as well. This would be the time necessary to provide the insurance companies with necessary credentialing information and to obtain the proper provider numbers. Credentialing applications can be submitted once a physician has been granted medical staff privileges at the hospital.

  10. What is the malpractice climate like in Florida now

For the past several years Florida has experienced a more stable malpractice environment. Once the state legislature imposed limits on certain types of awards, the market began to stabilize and the availability of commercial malpractice coverage increased.
